Powers of Attorney & Guardianship

Appointing an Enduring Guardian

Plan for the future by appointing an Enduring Guardian to make personal and lifestyle decisions for you when you can't do this for yourself.

If you can't make your own lifestyle decisions because of an illness, accident or disability, you cannot always be sure that people important to you will be available or recognised when important decisions need to be made on your behalf.

Sometimes there can be conflict among family members or friends about what is best for you or what your wishes would be. If you appoint an enduring guardian legally that person can consider your thoughts and opinions and make decisions on your behalf if the need arises.

It is important to plan ahead for a time when you may be unable to make your own decisions.

A Will is forward planning of your wishes after you die.

An enduring Power of Attorney is forward planning while you are living, appointing someone with legal authority to manage your financial affairs, money and property, if you are unable to at some time in the future. A Power of Attorney cannot be used to authorise someone to make medical, personal or lifestyle decisions.
